Next week we will meet at the Tenement Museum at 6:00pm. The tour starts at 6:30 promptly and I want to be able to take attendance. The fabulous bookstore is open til 6:30 and has a wonderful selection of books, dvds, maps, gifts on the Lower Eastside and tenement life.
The Tenement Museum is located at 103 Orchard Street at the corner of Delancey Street (south side of Delancey). Please click on the link below for subway directions. http://www.tenement.org/directions.html
The tour is one hour and as I indicated half will be getting “Irish Outsiders” and half “Sweatshop Workers”. The later deals more with Jewish immigrants. The tour is one hour until 7:30 and afterwards I will take the class on a walking tour and show you some of the other sites in the Lower Eastside, so we will end around 9:00 pm approx.
You can’t take pictures inside, but you can use your camera on our walking tour afterwards, which may include places like Katz’s Deli, several synagogues, Orchard Street, etc. Also a notepad to take notes as they might not let visitors use an audio recorder.
