Assignment #10 Chop Shop – Tenzin Rinchen

Chop Shop is really a nice movie. It tells a story about Ale who is an orphan from Queens, New York. He has a sister named Izzy. They both live in an auto repair store where Ale works. He is like the father figure to his the sister. His sister work at the food truck in an auto repair area. His sister works as a prostitute at night and Ale find out about it when he and his friend see her inside the truck with a stranger. He never tells her about it and behave normal. There is a truck they both wanted to buy and have their own business. They start to save the money and finally buys the truck, but it is so dirty that they have to change everything inside which will cost them about $10000/-.

The movie is very realistic and deals with the everyday life of the legal and illegal immigrant in New York City. We still see people at the waiting for some random people to pick up for the work. Even though child labor is illegal in New York, I think there are many who are working hiding from the law. Just like in the movie how Ale and Izzy work together to survive, there are many siblings in New York who work together to survive. Chop-Shop-Jaime-October-2012

Assignment #6 Do the Right Thing -Dexter Borja

Now “do the right thing” is really out their and raw this film directed by Spike lee is pretty interesting this movie shows alot of  racism and sterotypes. In the movie you get to see all the racial tension that these races have towards each other their are asian, african American, latinos and whites.

the story begins with a young man by the name mookie work for sal at the pizzeria his friend bugging out sees that he live in a black neighborhood and sals pizzeria has a wall filled with white actors and he decided to comfront sal bout the wall asking why isnt their black actors. sal simply responds becaouse its my pizzeria and ill put up who ever i want, this then seemd to start a spark and buggig out  starts to try to boycot sal by then saying that he is racist. i didnt think sal had problem with the African American community because he basically fed the people in that neighbor hood for years and watched them grow. but one of his kids wasnt able to understand that, urging sal to move to a different part of town becaouse he didnt like the people in the neighbor hood cuz of their coltural differences.

At the end bugging out got what he wanted after one of his friends had the cops called on and they had chocked him to death. moogie was upset and shattered sal pisseria window and everyone burn the rest of it down.

Assignment#7 Trip To Media Center-By Dexter Borja

i never knew about the media center untill we took a trip out to see it i like the location and some of the classes they offer, some free and some not but in the other hand you also get to rent out a spaciouse room to hold conferences and you get to share with other people who are also into media arts.

i enjoyed the visual presentaition of the place and the fact that they had a walls with projectors showing all kinds of video and animation.

What had caought my attention are the classes they offer they offer alot of media classes from how to tell stories, speach and even starting and forming a bussines this sounds all great and i might just take some of the classes they offer.

Assignment #7 – Trip to Made in NY Media Center – Stephan Moyano

What I found interesting about our trip to Made in NY Media Center was the
environment of the facility. The modern facility is divided into a professional
business for networking and the relaxing Cuper Cafe which carries a menu including a variety of good foods and beverages.

prosciutto Mozzarella Sandwich yummm

I liked how the television network executives came out to tell us about their future ideas for
their consumers in the “Bridge Serious” discussion “Stay Tuned – Keeping viewers
connected 24/7”. Although, when it comes to presentation I’d rather see more
show than tell. If you are capable of visually showing me you’re ideas as to
talking about them I will be more interested in your vision. Since, all they did was
talk about their ideas over and over it was a little hard for me not to fall
asleep. It seemed as if the light from the projector was the only thing keeping
me from being rude enough to falling asleep right in their faces as they’re
literally looking me in the eye. I appreciate their interest in my interest as a
consumer, but if we’re talking about entertainment I need their means of
representation to be entertaining as well. Not hating, but a few visuals
wouldn’t have hurt. I kept hoping for that projector to screen something else
besides their names which I’ve already forgotten by now.

Other than that I found the Media Center to be a very creative place, helping creative minds collaborate which is very important. Communication is key in increasing business and the Made in NY Media Center seemed like a great place to do just that. Also, they’ve got numerous workshops which looks like a fun way of expanding knowledge in a field of interest.

Chop Shop By Michael Cruz

“Chop Shop” is a Film Directed by Ramin Bahrani. About a 12 year old boy by the name of Ale, who struggles to live in a rough part of Queens, New York. I really enjoyed this film, it really shows how a city like New York Can help you grow and Mature at such a young age. Ale who is about 12 years old in the film,  a young boy who we are left to believe that he is abandoned by his parents and works many odd jobs to put some food in his stomach. We mostly see Ale work in the “Chop Shop” area of Queens where he sells cheap car parts and cleans other peoples cars. Ale does not go to school, he just works urlhis but off from early in the morning till closing time at a friends car shop, in which also where Ale sleeps and stays. Which is already a quality that is unsual for a normal 12 year old boy. We later meet his sister Izzy, who comes to live with Ale. This is also another Trait we see in Ale that He’s more of a Man than a 12 year old boy. Though Izzy is Much older than he is, Ale provides income and always checks up on her to make sure that Izzy is alway safe. Usually a brother and sister relationship at that age would as end up in them bickering (in which they do from time to time). But in this film we also see how naive Ale is do to his young age. Ale and Izzy save up enough money to buy a food truck so they can take out on to the road and make a living off of. After saving $4,500.00, we find out that the truck is unusable and that it would cost around $10,000.00 to fix. AlChopShopStill3e could not give the truck back due to signing papers and not checking everything in the truck before actually buying. As a result of this Ale tries to find quicker ways to get money by stealing a woman’s person out on the street. Till’ he realizes that it isn’t the right thing to do. At the end of this film it seems like we are left to believe that Izzy and Ale are gonna have to start from square one all over again. This film is an accurate depiction of people who live in poverty in a big city like New York. You either work as hard as you can or end up falling in the wrong scenario with some bad consequences.
